The S.W.A.G. Standard: What Faith-Based Financial Planning Actually Means

There is a particular kind of quiet on Richardson Avenue in the early morning, before the shops open and the humidity settles in for the day. It is the same quiet Mike Salley has walked into for over twenty years, coffee in hand, long before the phones start ringing. He opened this office because he believed something the industry rarely says out loud: that the way you manage money should look a lot like the way you try to live your life.

That belief has a name now. We call it the S.W.A.G. Standard, and it has quietly shaped every plan, every portfolio, and every conversation that has happened inside these walls for two decades. If you have ever wondered what actually separates a faith-based financial firm from every other office with a nice logo and a coffee machine in the lobby, this is where the answer starts.

More Than an Acronym

S.W.A.G. stands for Stewardship, Wealth, Advice, and Guidance, and for us those four words carry a promise about how we show up for every family who walks through the door.

When Mike Salley founded Salley Wealth Advisors Group over 20 years ago, he built it around one central question: what is this money actually for.

That question changes everything.

Stewardship: The Foundation Everything Is Built On

We believe wealth is a tool for honoring God, providing for your family, and leaving something meaningful behind. That belief is the lens we use when we build every portfolio and walk through every decision with a client.

A steward is entrusted with what they manage. That sense of responsibility shapes the way we talk to clients about risk, about giving, and about what "enough" really looks like.

Wealth: Redefined Around Purpose, Not Just Performance

Yes, performance matters. We are fee-based fiduciaries and we take the technical side of your plan seriously. But we have watched enough families move through enough seasons of life to know that a growing account balance does not automatically translate into peace. Real wealth includes the values you pass on, the education you fund, and the causes you support, alongside the numbers on the statement.

Advice: Built Around Your Season of Life, Not a Sales Script

We serve people at very different points on the journey. The Visionary who is early in their career and building momentum. The Steward who has built something significant and now needs to protect it. The Legacy who is ready to shift from accumulation to impact. Cookie-cutter advice does not work for any of them, so we do not offer it.

Guidance: A Relationship, Not a Transaction

This is the piece that tends to surprise new clients the most. We walk alongside Charleston and Summerville families through market swings, career changes, growing families, and everything else life brings, year after year, well beyond an annual statement review. That is why we have maintained 75 percent client retention over a 25 year period. Trust like that gets built one conversation, one decision, and one season at a time.

What This Means for Your Family

If you have ever felt like your financial plan was missing something even though the spreadsheet looked fine, you are not alone. A lot of families come to us after years of working with advisors who focused entirely on the numbers and never once asked what those numbers were supposed to accomplish. The S.W.A.G. Standard is our answer to that gap.

Twenty years is long enough to watch a lot of things change in the Lowcountry. New construction where there used to be pasture, new faces at church, new businesses along the roads Mike has driven his whole life. The reason the doors open every morning has stayed the same through all of it. Stewardship, Wealth, Advice, and Guidance are four promises kept, one family at a time, for as long as this firm has the privilege of serving this community.
